What each one actually involves
Described, not ranked. Which one suits you is a clinical decision, and it belongs to the practitioner who examines you.
Invisalign
A branded aligner system with the longest track record and the widest case range. Priced accordingly.
Other clear aligner systems
Spark, ClearCorrect and clinic-own systems. Legitimate, and often suited to straightforward cases.
Ceramic and lingual braces
Fixed appliances, tooth-coloured or placed behind the teeth. Still the route for cases aligners cannot move.
Retainers
Worn after treatment, permanently in some form. Teeth move back without them, so they are part of the treatment rather than an accessory.
What separates one clinic from another here
Take these with you. A practice that answers them without hesitating is telling you something a website never will.
- 01
Who plans the case
“Is my case planned by an orthodontist, or by a general dentist who is certified in the system?”
- 02
Case volume
“How many aligner cases has this practitioner completed, and what is their provider tier?”
- 03
Retainers and reviews
“Are retainers and review appointments in the price, or billed at the end?”
- 04
Refinements
“How many refinement sets are included if my teeth do not track as planned?”
- 05
In-person versus remote
“How many times will I actually be seen in the chair rather than by app?”
What a search cannot do for you
We know what a quote leaves out
What gets billed on top is the biggest source of unpleasant surprises, and it only becomes visible once you have read a great many quotes.
We filter on things you cannot search for
The practitioner's language, their gender, instalment plans, insurance handling, how closely you are guided. No search engine indexes any of it.
We stay after the introduction
A search ends at the click. Dana is still answering three weeks later.
What Dana does at every step
A search ends at the click. This is the part that carries on afterwards.
Day 0, after the quiz
Your match is confirmed
Dana confirms the match, explains why this clinic, and sends the slot.
Day 0
Before you go in
A preparation sheet built from your answers: the questions worth asking in consultation.
Day 1
Consultation booked
If the clinic has not come back within 24 hours, Dana chases them, then looks again.
After the consultation
You receive a quote
Send it to Dana. You get told what is missing against what is normally quoted, and what usually gets billed on top.
Before the procedure
Scheduling and preparation
Reminders, a preparation checklist, and help with the insurance paperwork.
Day 1, 7 and 30
Recovery and check-ups
Dana checks in, and reminds you about the follow-up appointments.

Language
If the consultation did not happen in your language, Dana relays.

Second opinion
Ask, and we arrange one at another clinic in the network.
Dana handles logistics, preparation and follow-up. She gives no clinical advice, no diagnosis and no interpretation of results — every medical question goes to your clinic.
Where you stand today
This usually works well if…
- Your teeth have shifted since childhood braces and you want them back where they were.
- You have mild to moderate crowding and would rather not wear visible braces at work.
- You have gaps you have never liked and want to know how long closing them takes.
- You have been quoted for aligners and want to know whether the plan is realistic.
You’ll want a proper assessment first if…
- You have a significant bite difference, which sometimes needs fixed braces or a combined plan.
- You have untreated gum disease, which is stabilised before teeth are moved.
- You have crowns or implants in the way, which changes what can be moved and how.
What recovery actually looks like
There is no recovery. Aligners are worn 20 to 22 hours a day and swapped every one to two weeks. Most people are sore for a day after each change and speak slightly differently for the first week.
How it went for other people
What people ask us about this
How long will it take?
Simple cases run four to six months, most run twelve to eighteen, complex ones longer. Anyone giving you a duration before seeing a scan is guessing.
Is Invisalign better than the cheaper systems?
It has the longest track record and handles the widest range of cases. For a straightforward case another system may do the same job. What matters more is who is planning it.
What if my teeth do not move as planned?
Refinement aligners are made. The question is who pays, and that should be answered in writing before you start.
Do I have to wear retainers forever?
In some form, yes. Teeth drift for life. Any plan that does not mention retainers is incomplete.
